Oh, North Park, how I love you. Here are my favorite spots in this eclectic neighborhood that is just effortlessly cool. Every corner has character and every evening feels like an adventure, not to mention, it holds the best food in San Diego!
Alexander's on 30th: Tucked on the corner of Upas and 30th, Alexander’s offers a cozy, romantic atmosphere paired with gourmet Italian dishes and an exceptional wine selection. The sister restaurant to one of my favorites, Old Venice, this place is the perfect spot for date night or celebrating a fun evening with friends.
The Observatory: One of the most iconic music venues in San Diego, The Observatory brings incredible live performances to the heart of North Park. From new indie bands to major touring acts, the energy inside always makes for a memorable night out.
Part Time Lover: Part Time Lover is my go-to hangout when I’m in North Park on a Friday night. Inspired by Japan’s iconic listening bars, this intimate lounge pairs moody lighting and a carefully curated vinyl experience with craft cocktails. With a dedicated record store in the back, the space feels like stepping into a mid-century living room, making it the perfect spot for date night or a change from the typical bar scene.
The Lafayette Hotel: I’d be remiss not to highlight The Lafayette Hotel, a historic North Park gem originally opened in 1946 and once frequented by legends like Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra. Beautifully reimagined while keeping its old Hollywood charm, the property now feels like a big playground for adults. You’ll find everything from a bowling alley and lively pool club to a mezcaleria inspired by a 100-year-old Catholic church. The Lafayette remains one of the most vibrant spots in San Diego for an unforgettable evening.
Original 40 Brewing: A North Park staple for craft beer enthusiasts, Original 40 Brewing is known for high-quality brews with a rotating lineup that spans everything from hoppy IPAs and rich stouts to crisp lagers. Whether you’re a seasoned beer lover or just exploring the neighborhood, it’s a great spot to enjoy a thoughtfully brewed pint in the heart of San Diego.
